Poll show that clients now want an unprecedented level of travel advice when booking their holiday...
'More people than ever are looking for expert advice when it comes to booking a holiday. This now goes WAY BEYOND recommending destinations and experiences, but also includes advice on your rights (to a refund) if your holiday is cancelled or if travel restrictions come into place, travel insurance, AND a detailed understanding of the flying and hotel experience'. Gilly Bachelor, October 2020
A huge thank you to everyone (across Facebook and Linkedin) that took part in my latest poll which asked whether Covid-19 would change the way you book your holidays, and why you might use the services of a personal travel consultant (like me!).
New Requirements for Advice & Guidance
It was encouraging to see that 92% of you would consider using the services of a travel consultant, with a staggering 50% of all participants valuing ‘advice and guidance’.
However, it was interesting from your in-depth feedback that whilst this ‘advice and guidance’ included destination insights it also covered topics such as your rights (and protection) should travel restrictions change; travel insurance; and what to expect on the flight and at the hotel/resort.
So, it’s clear to see that you’re really looking for your travel partner to offer expert advice across a wide range of new areas, since Covid-19.
36% of all participants liked the idea of a personal contact. This is no surprise, as so many people that booked holidays found their high street travel agent was closed, or they couldn’t get hold of their online holiday provider as most of their staff were on furlough.
Only a small percentage of participants (8%) will continue to book online. However, in reality, this number will be a lot higher, though it’s clear to see that the service provided by LoveHolidays and On The Beach, and their subsequent exit from ABTA, has rocked confidence.
Similarly, only 8% of participants said they would use a Personal Travel Consultant to ensure their holiday was ATOL and/or ABTA protected. However, more in-depth research showed that this was extremely important, with participants expecting this to be part of the expert ‘advice’ provided.
